Volunteer – Operational Roles

Details of our operational volunteering roles can be found below.

Adviser

Volunteers who give advice to our clients are at the heart of our service.  You will receive full training and once you start giving advice you will be fully supported and supervised.  We ask you to volunteer for 6-12 hours on 1-2 days a week for at least 2 years.

A good level of literacy, general IT competency, and numeracy skills are essential. You will be required to pass a simple aptitude test covering these skills.

Telephone Assessor (Adviceline)

As a Telephone Assessor you will be the first point of contact for people who phone our helpline. We ask you to volunteer for at least 4 hours a week for at least 12 months.

A good level of general IT competency and basic online research skills are essential. You will be required to pass a simple aptitude test covering these skills.

Receptionist

As a Receptionist you will help our ‘front of house’ to run smoothly, and be a welcoming face as the first person clients see when they visit our office. You will help to manage client appointment bookings, assist clients with completing service registration forms, update computer systems and help with related general admin tasks. We ask you to volunteer for at least half a day a week.

A good level of literacy and general IT competency is essential.

Research & Campaigns Volunteer

As a R&C Volunteer you would help us to collect and analyse data and use it to bring about changes in policy.

Volunteer – Trustee Roles

Our Trustees are all volunteers.  We seek people with experience and skills which enable the Trustee Board to determine the Bureau’s mission and long term aims, and approve the Bureau’s strategy, Business Plan and budgets.  Trustees provide staff and volunteers with support, guidance and challenge.

Trustee

The Trustee Board has responsibility for the overall direction, strategy and performance of the CAY. It’s stimulating, responsible work with experienced, collegial and capable colleagues.

Trustee Treasurer

In addition to their responsibilities as a trustee (see separate Trustee Role Description), the Treasurer is responsible for advising the Trustee Board in its understanding of its financial duties/responsibilities and understanding CAY’s financial position.
