£150 Council Tax Energy Rebate

Updated 23rd May 2022

If you live in – and pay Council Tax & energy bills for – a Council Tax band A-D property, you will be due a £150 rebate (payment) this year.

If you pay your Council Tax by Direct Debit

The £150 should have been automatically credited to the bank account from which you pay your Council Tax, by 10th May 2022, without the need to apply. If you have not yet received it, you may need to apply for it manually – details at: www.york.gov.uk/HelpWithEnergyCosts

If you do not pay your Council Tax by Direct Debit

You will have to apply for the rebate manually. You can do this online through the City of York Council website at: www.york.gov.uk/CouncilTaxRebateScheme#app. If you need help with the form, you can contact us (Citizens Advice York) for assistance.

If you don’t live in a band A-D property, or are exempt from Council Tax

There will be a discretionary scheme launching by the end of June 2022 which people can apply for if they do not qualify for the above rebate. Details will be on the City of York Council website. As it is discretionary, there will not be an automatic entitlement to it. The exact eligibility criteria will be published on the City of York Council website.
